COVID-19 is a short form of CoronaVirus Disease 2019. It is an highly contagious viral disease caused by a recently discovered variety of Coronavirus.

It attacks the respiratory system of our body. Older people and people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases are at greater risk to develop fatal illness.

The coronavirus outbreak originated from Wuhan city of China during December 2019. Scientists think that it has been transmitted from bats or snakes to humans from the native fish market in Wuhan.

This pandemic disease basically spreads through tiny droplets of saliva discharge occurring during coughing or sneezing. Therefore, it is necessary to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose to stop the spread of this virus.

To slow down the spread of coronavirus, a world wide lockdown was initiated. Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi also announced Lockdown on March 24th . This led to the downfall of the nation's economy. People became unemployed, smaller businesses were closed. Tourism business was hit the hardest. Daily labourers and informal workers faced a real challenge to earn their livelihood.

Without jobs, a huge population of immigrants was helpless as there were no mode of transportation available during the lockdown. They have to walk down hundreds of kilometers to reach their homes. 

The educational establishments were also closed where schools, colleges and universities remain shut until further orders. Examination and entrance tests were suspended due to this exceptional situation. 

Common symptoms of coronavirus infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Though these are symptoms of common cold, one should seek immediate medical attention. The time between exposure and symptoms of coronavirus is 5-14 days.

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus one must wash hands frequently, wear a mask, keep social distance and evade close contact with people suffering from breathing discomfort.
