My favourite personality Late Mr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam or popularly known as Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a genius and an inspiring person. He belonged to a poor family but with his hard work and determination, he became the 11th President of India. He was popularly known as The Missile Man of India because of his work as a scientist in Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Mr. Abdul Kalam was born on October 15th, 1931 in Tamil Nadu. During his early childhood, his family became poor due to failure in business and loss of property overtime. He supported his family by selling newspapers. During school years, Kalam was an average student  but he was a hardworking student who had a strong desire for learning new things. He graduated in Physics from University of Madras and studied aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology.

Mr. Abdul Kalam was known for his love for students. He had a great passion for teaching and promoting education. In one of the interviews he said "I feel very comfortable in the company of young people".  He always shared his experiences with the students and helped them to ignite their imagination. His dream was to prepare the youth of India to explore their true potential and make India, a great nation.

He had written many inspirational books such as, Wings of fire (autobiography), India 2020, Ignited Minds etc. He had inspired many people through his writings and speeches. He was also honoured with many prestigious awards such as Padma bhushan, Padma vibhushan and Bharat Ratna.

He was known for his humble and respectful attitude towards people and was therefore, called the People's President. He had an optimistic attitude towards life. He had a strong personality with correct moral values.

On 27th July 2015, while delivering a lecture at the IIM Shillong, Kalam passed away due a heart attack. The Government of India declared a seven-day state mourning period as a mark of respect. He was a great personality and an inspiration for the youth of India.

He is not physically present among us today, but his great works and contribution will be with us forever.
