Women empowerment refers to the activities undertaken to improve the social, economic, and political status of women in the world. It signifies that women should be given equal opportunity in various fields such as education, profession, lifestyle etc., without any discrimination. It includes raising their status through education, awareness, literacy and training. It is rightly said- If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.
Women were treated very badly in ancient times. They were not allowed to pursue education and were given only the household tasks. At present times as well, women are facing heinous crimes such as rape, acid attack, dowry system, honour killing, domestic violence, etc., in India.

The individuals and government must both come together to make it happen. At the individual level, we should start respecting women by abolishing social evils like dowry system, child marriage etc. and start giving them opportunities equal to men
The Government has come up with various schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana, Mahila-E-Haat, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Working Women Hostel etc. to empower women. The government should take steps to reach the remotest area of India and try to implement these schemes to the tribal population as well. These small steps will change the situation of women in society and make them feel empowered.
