A Visit To Historical Place - Lahore Fort

“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before”

Dalai Lama

Our school had planned a visit to see the marvelous Lahore Fort in the heart of the Lahore city. We were required to assemble on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. on the school campus. There was excitement everywhere as it was going to be a wonderful day for all of us. As the bus left the school campus, we started singing the school prayer. Teachers also joined us and then we played “Antakshari”. How the time of the journey passed we could hardly feel. Leaving our buses a little distance from the main monument we stepped down.

“Monuments are the grappling-irons that bind one generation to another.”

Joseph Joubert

The beautiful Lahore fort and its two works of art from the Mughal architecture were in front of us. The Badshahi Mosque and the Shahi Qila together form the magnificent Lahore fort. The Lahore fort is also popularly known as the Royal Fort or Shahi Qila. The Fort has 13 gates in total but we were going to enter from the main gate. The entrance is remarkable with twin domes which leads to huge courtyards which have eye-catching wall decorations. Those courtyards and stairs make you feel as if you are living in the era of kings and queens. The old bricks and the ancient architecture made us wonder about the luxurious life of the Mughal rulers.

"The forts are nothing but witness of wars, celebrations and bloodshed"

The Lahore Fort is a famous tourist destination for the people in Pakistan along with tourists from other parts of the world. Many foreigners also come to visit the Fort and I saw many there during my visit too.

Our history teacher told us that the Lahore Fort was originally built in 1544 AD by the Mughal Rulers. One of the most respectable portions of the Fort is the Iqbal Tomb, where Allama Iqbal, the Poet of the East is buried. Many people visit to pay their respect to him. He was one of the founding fathers of Pakistan and is known for coming up with the original idea of creating Pakistan.

“The nations are born in the hearts of poets, they prosper and die in the hands of politicians”

Muhammad Iqbal

It was a dream come true for us to visit this architectural wonder about which we had heard so much. Our country can really be proud of this piece of art. It was now about 6 o'clock in the evening. Then we started our return journey. It was a memorable experience for me.
