"The weak never apologize, forgiveness is the specialty of a powerful person"Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi ji's words can have a profound impact on society even today. He was a great soul in human history who tied India to the door of unity with his wisdom. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. He is also known as the Father of the Nation or 'bapu' for his great contribution in the freedom struggle of india.

He studied law in England and became a barrister in 1891. In 1893, he went to South Africa where Gandhi ji had to endure the discrimination for being an Indian. Despite having a first class train ticket, he was asked to go to third class. And when he protested, he was humiliated and thrown down from the moving train. Not only this, he was barred from entering several hotels in South Africa. He was in South Africa for around 2 decades and saw injustice towards indians. So he decided to become a political activist for bringing positive changes towards such kind of discrimination.

In 1914, Gandhi ji returned to India at the invitation of a moderate Congress leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale. After returning to India, he organized several non-violent movements like civil disobedience, champaran movement, Dandi Salt Satyagraha, non-cooperation movement, Swadeshi movement etc. He even went to jail several times in his fight against the British rule. Impressed by Mahatma Gandhi, a large group of people boycotted the British government and refused to work with them. Each of these protests may seem small in front of the power of the British government, but when it is opposed by the majority of people, it has a wider impact on society. Later, he started quit India movement in 1942 which forced Britishers to leave india and thus india got independence on 15th August, 1947. For all the good deeds, Gandhiji was bestowed by the status of “Mahatama” by the nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Gandhi ji was a skilled politician as well as a very good writer. The major books written by him are Hind Swaraj, Satyagraha in South Africa (in which he describes his struggle in South Africa), India of my dreams and Village Swaraj. These books are filled with Gandhism which are still guiding the societies of India.
